курсова работа WORD ORDER IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

The current state of the English language is the result of many external influences and internal processes which took place throughout history and which constitute language change. Most languages, English included, have alternative constructions for expressing the same ideas. One of these ways is more common than others and is considered the normal, neutral, unmarked construction. For example, English word order has the basic dominant structure Subject Verb Object, which can be broken or changed for special purposes (Trask, 2015). Those alternative ways of expressing the same idea are marked because they are considered less usual and are often remnants from the past when there was more variation within the English syntax (Trask, 2015). In the following work, an attempt will be made to look at the focal points around which the word order in English is organised, focusing on the basic unmarked order of lexical elements in the simple sentence and its constituents. Furthermore, a brief account of the word ordering in complex sentences would also be given for the purposes of more complete view of the matter.
