курсова работа Ernest Hemingway, from “In Another Country” – Analysis

The author makes ample use of polysyndeton, which contributes to the stylised journalistic style of expression, so characteristic of his works. This gives the passage a realistic, matter-of-fact atmosphere that reflects the immediacy of war. It also evokes a sensation of its inevitability and its persistent presence in the life ot the narrator – „The deer hung stiff and heavy and empty, and small birds blew in the wind and the wind turned their feathers.“ This idiosyncratic rhetorical style translates into a reporting, impersonal tone, which equalises important and trivial aspects; tragic and every-day circumstances. It also conveys the resignation that came with the prolonged period of war. It has become part of people’s daily lives.
